Samsung apologises for Russian app download error

Samsung has apologized for a software upgrade delivered to UK consumers that began downloading Russian government-mandated applications. The erroneous phrasing was due to a technical issue, and no Russian apps had been loaded, according to the company.

In April, Russia enacted a new rule requiring cellphones to include software developed in the nation. Customers would be anxious, according to one expert, because Samsung has not completely explained what went wrong.

Russian restrictions

"The nice thing about this warning-assuming it is meant for you-is that Samsung is being honest by giving you links to the Russian federation decree that demands such software," he said, adding that it provided insight into how Samsung dealt with Russian legislation.

"However, privacy expert Pat Walshe said he believed the matter had been poorly handled, especially in light of Mr.edmans' worry and anguish, as well as the fact that he couldn't trust the installation."
